My Hero...

My family and I have had a tough couple of weeks...the toughest we've ever had. We have suffered a devastating loss. My Dad passed away...suddenly and unexpectedly. Although we missed him terribly, we have to be thankful for the 75 years he graced this earth. He was a good man...actually an exemplary human being. He loved his family deeply and we all knew that. He loved his neighborhood, his community...he loved life. My Dad was kind and gentle, smart...a consummate teacher, loving and fun. You couldn't find a more devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend or neighbor.

Dad probably wouldn't like this picture I've posted...but it was the most recent. He came to my house to do a few "jobs" for me. My son took this one of Dad in one of his signature flannel work shirts. Dad was smart and skilled...there wasn't a problem he couldn't fix or job he couldn't do. I will miss Dad everyday and can't possibly explain the emptiness I feel.

More pictures of my Dad are listed under Sept 7, 2007 entry. We went on our annual family vacation and I posted a few photos from that trip.

Ellen, I love that you posted this. I am sure that all of your readers were concerned about where you have been. This is such a great picture for you to post, an everyday rememberance, and the reason your Dad meant so much to you and others.
Thanks for sharing-

Dear Ellen,
This is my first visit to your blog. I can't imagine the pain that you have losing that lovely man. I feel exactly the same way about my 85 year old dad and thank God everyday that both he and mom are still healthy and happy. Thanks for sharing, take care of yourself, and I'll be back to look at future "glittery projects."

Ellen - it is very obvious that you loved your dad very, very much, and it was a wonderful tribute to him. I can understand the journey of loss that you are starting on, as it will just be one year April 18th that I lost my dad and three years before that my mom. My thoughts and prayers will are with you as you walk through this new journey in life without your dad. Karen

My sympathy to you and your family. My dad joined my mom in heaven 16 years ago tomorrow. I will say that time heals, but the beautiful memories linger forever.

I'm sorry for your loss. There is nothing that hurts quite like the loss of your dad. After losing mine, I realized it was one of those pains you could never explain, but that those who've been there need no explanation.
